  • Select the Insert tab.
  • Click the Symbol button on the Insert tab. Select More Symbols.

Word will consider the AutoCorrect text part of the text if there is any text before or after it. Thus, it will not convert to a Section symbol. In the case of XSECSYM, no conversion will take place. However, X SECSYM will convert to X §.
